THE LOWDOWN

AUSTRALIA

Coach: Andrew McDonald

Captain: Pat Cummins

  • Australia are coming off the back of by far their most convincing performance of the World Cup so far last Friday, scoring 367/9 batting first against Pakistan and ultimately winning by 62 runs, their second victory of the group stage so far.
  • David Warner stole the show with the biggest individual score of this World Cup as it stands, scoring a massive 163 whilst his opening partner Mitchell Marsh score a century of his own and although the two added 259 for the first wicket, they could still be broken up for this match if Travis Head is passed fit to play.

NETHERLANDS

Coach: Ryan Cook

Captain: Scott Edwards

  • Netherlands unfortunately could not follow up their stunning victory against South Africa, which remains their only win of the tournament so far after they were beaten by five wickets vs Sri Lanka in Lucknow.
  • The top order failed batting first and despite SA Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek dragging them up a competitive total from the lower order, it wasn’t enough as spin-bowler Aryan Dutt lacked the necessary support to restrict Sri Lanka.

THE PREDICTION

Although Netherlands were never expected to beat South Africa, it does feel like that might have been a flash in the pan. The lost against Sri Lanka may well have knocked the stuffing out of them and they now face an Australian side who are starting look ominously good following their stuttering start. The number of world class batters at Australia’s disposal should see them dictate the tempo of this game whether they be batting first or second and backing Australia to make it three wins in a row is a sensible move.
