The 2023 Cricket World Cup is up and running with the game's best in India to compete for the ultimate prize.

England are the reigning champions after a dramatic clash against New Zealand that saw Ben Stokes star in a historic Super Over win in 2019.

Jos Buttler has replaced the retired Eoin Morgan as captain since that triumph and he will lead his country into the showpiece tournament as England aim to defend their title this autumn.

Hosts India are the favourites to win the competition while five-time winners Australia will be fancying their own chances at success.

Cricket World Cup 2023: Teams and format

Ten countries will take part in the Cricket World Cup this year.

Those countries are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

They will compete in a round-robin stage where every team plays each other once in an ODI (One-Day International).

A win earns a side two points while a draw or no result means both teams get one point each.
