Baltimore Orioles Mike Elias not yet ready to max out payroll
Mike Elias is confident the team will continue to increase its payroll. The projected payroll of the 2023 active roster is $53.5M. That's an increase of 20% from the 2022 budget. The team is ranked 29th of 30 teams. It's possible the payroll could be doubled. There are still players on the market.
The Orioles improved by 31 wins in 2022, but they didn't make it to the playoffs until the final weekend of last season. Elias promised to increase the payroll in 2023, and the team is still in a legal dispute with the Nationals over MASN TV rights money. Louis Angelos is suing his brother, John, his mother Georgia, claiming they illegally squeezed him out of team ownership.
A Baltimore County judge denied a request to disqualify Benjamin Rosenberg as an attorney for Peter Angelos. Rosenberg will continue to represent the interests of Angelo. The family feud involves Peter's law firm.
