Best bets for ZOZO Championship, Andalucia Masters

Tom Kim is the second player under 21 to win twice on the PGA Tour since World War II. He won the Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas at a price of 25-1. Patrick Cantlay tied for second place with Matthew NeSmith. The Pga Tour is heading to Japan for the ZOZO Championship. Kim, ranked No. 15 in the OWGR, is not the tournament favorite at 16-2. He is in a field with 14 of the Top 50 players. They include Cameron Young, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Corey Conners, Tommy Fleetwood, Keegan Bradley, Tom Hoge, Mito Pereira, Sepp Straka and KH Lee.

ZOZo Championship is the first PGA Tour event sanctioned in Japan. It is held at Narashino Country Club in Inzai, Chiba, Japan, 90 minutes outside of Tokyo.

This week's no-cut field consists of 78 players. The inaugural ZOZO Championship in 2019 was won by Tiger Woods. 2020 ZoZo Championship was held at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. It was last held in Japan in 2020, but returned to Japan last year and was also won there by Hideki Matsuyama.

The ZOZO Championship is taking place at Accordia Golf Narashino CC. The course is a tree-lined parklands with six doglegs and small putting surfaces. It is the rainy season in Japan. The fairways and rough are Zoysiagrass while the greens are Bentgrass. They are on the smallish side at an average of 5,500 square feet. There are different greens used on different days.

Hideki Matsuyama is the favourite to win the tournament in 2021. Patrick Cantlay is a long shot. Tiger Woods is 33-1.

Strokes Gained data has not been available for this event. The course penalizes missing the fairway with only two-inch rough.

Collin Morikawa is still winless in 2022, but he has been in the mix several times this season. He has always played well in Japan with a 22nd (2019) and 7th (2021) at Narashino.

Victor Hovland is the best bet for ZOZO Championship, Andalucia Masters.

Tyrrell Hatton is the second-ranked player in the field for three-putt avoidance and putts from 0-5 feet. He has six top-25 finishes in his last eight starts.

Mito Pereira won the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in May. Last week he finished T-4 at the Shriners Children's Open. He also finished in the top five at last year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Cameron Young is ranked 16th in the world. He has a good combination of good form and good driving skills. This is his season debut. Narashino Country Club in Japan is this week's venue. It's comparable to Country of Jackson, Quail Hollow, Wells Fargo Championship and Torrey Pines.

Cam Davis is a big hitter with a solid short game. Davis came in 37th place last week in Las Vegas. He's never missed a cut in five visits to Torrey Pines and took 26th in his only trip to Quail Hollow Club in 2021.

Scott Stallings is a player who is long off the tee and has a good short game. Stalling has won at Torrey Pines and finished second and 25th at Sanderson Farms.

Luke List is a good ball striker but a poor putter. List won at Torrey Pines last season and finished 12th and 10th at Sanderson Farms. He has missed five cuts in his last seven starts.

Jon Rahm won the Open de España in Madrid last week. Matt Fitzpatrick is the defending champion of the Andalucia Masters. Min Woo Lee finished second last year. Ryan Fox won two weeks ago at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Robert MacIntyre is a recent DP World Tour winner.

Andalucia Masters was canceled in 2012 because of the economic crisis in Spain. It returned in 2017 and was hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation with Estrella Damm, a beer brewed in Barcelona, as its sponsor. 2020 event was originally scheduled to be held the first weekend in May but was moved to the 1st weekend of September. 2021 and 2022 events will remain in the same portion of calendar.

Valderrama is one of the most challenging golf courses in the world. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1975. Valderama was the first course in continental Europe to host the Ryder Cup in 1997. The course is 7,000 yards long and has Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens.

Matt Fitzpatrick, John Catlin and Christiaan Bezuidenhout have won the Valderrama tournament in recent years. Graeme McDowell won there in 2010.

ZOZo Championship, Andalucia Masters takes place in Andalusia.
