Gunners can get back on track

Arsenal will look to push Southampton closer to relegation and boost their own chances of winning the Premier League title when the teams meet at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.

The Gunners can go seven points clear of Manchester City with a win, but will have played two matches more than Pep Guardiola’s side, who they face at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.

Although Arsenal have surrendered 2-0 leads to draw each of their previous two matches – away to Liverpool and West Ham United – they are unbeaten in nine in the Premier League.

Southampton prop up the table and look destined for the Championship, but they did secure a 1-1 draw against Arsenal in the reverse fixture in October.

The Saints have also managed to score against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur recently, so it is worth backing them to get on the scoresheet but in a losing cause.

Time running out for the Saints

Last weekend’s 2-0 defeat by Crystal Palace means Southampton are winless in six in the Premier League, and they are slowly losing touch with the rest of their relegation rivals. 

Four points from safety and with an inferior goal difference to every other club in the division bar Nottingham Forest, they need the teams above them to drop points in the coming weeks.

That may mean they go on the front foot against Arsenal, who have looked more vulnerable in recent weeks, and with that in mind over 3.5 goals appeals.

Arsenal’s past four games have contained at least four goals, and while only two of Southampton’s games have produced over 2.5 goals land, they need to go down fighting this week.

Jesus hits form in home straight

Gabriel Jesus has returned from injury at the right time for Arsenal’s title challenge and he has again shown why the club paid so much money for him in the summer.

The Brazil forward has nine goals in 17 Premier League appearances this season and four of those have come in the previous three matches against Leeds United, Liverpool and West Ham.

His movement and eye for goal will be tough to stop for Southampton and we expect him to shine on home soil once again.
