City slicker than inconsistent Reds

Manchester City need to maintain their winning form in the Premier League between now and the end of the season, with few signs that leaders Arsenal are set to drop off in form.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been the team to beat in the top flight in recent years but are running out of time to rein in the Gunners. Although City have collected 16 points from their previous six league matches and have a game in hand, Arsenal have won all of their past six to stay eight points ahead.

A comparatively poor record against the rest of the big six could cost City at the end of the season, with losses coming at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Liverpool.

But they remain formidable at home, taking 34 points and scoring 43 goals from 13 league matches, while Liverpool have an awful away record this season, winning just three and losing seven of 13 Premier League games on the road.

Before the international break they followed a 7-0 home win over Manchester United with an insipid display in a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth and their record of never having beaten City at the Etihad during Guardiola’s time in charge should continue, although they should get on the scoresheet.

Manchester City vs Liverpool tip 1: Manchester City to win and both teams to score @ 2/1 with Betfred

Alvarez an able deputy

There are doubts over the fitness of Erling Haaland for the hosts heading and while it will be a blow to lose the Premier League’s top scorer, his absence would hand Julian Alvarez a deserved chance.

The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals in 33 games and has proved himself capable of leading the line if Haaland is not available.

Alvarez has scored against the likes of Chelsea and Spurs this season and, against a Liverpool defence that has been shaky at times this season, the Argentine should find some joy.

Manchester City vs Liverpool tip 2: Julian Alvarez to have 2+ shots on target @ 11/10 with Betfred

Salah the man for Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has not had his best season for Liverpool but has still registered 22 goals in all competitions including five in his previous eight games.

He has a superb record against City, scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances against them, and he is the ultimate big-game player who should provide problems to Guardiola’s side.

Combining an in-form Salah to score with Liverpool having at least four corners seems a solid #PickYourPunt selection at 5/1.

The Reds were awarded nine corners in their most recent game – the 1-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League, and racked up eight, four and five respectively in three league games prior to that against Bournemouth, Manchester United and Wolves.

Manchester City vs Liverpool tip 3: Mohamed Salah to score and Liverpool to take over 3.5 corners @ 5/1 with Betfred #PickYourPunt
