Opponents could settle for a point each

Villa, after losing a third consecutive game on February 18, have since embarked on a seven-game unbeaten run in which they have climbed to sixth position in the top-flight table.

They have chalked up six victories during this streak – five of those to nil – while the only time they have dropped points was in the 1-1 draw against West Ham at the London Stadium.

Unai Emery’s troops have certainly built up a head of steam and they will take some stopping at Villa Park, where they have chalked up three straight wins without conceding, against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

While that home form is impressive, the level of those three opponents is nowhere near what they will encounter when taking on Champions League hopefuls Newcastle United.

The Magpies are on a five-match winning streak and, notably, three of those triumphs have come on the road, beating Forest 2-1, the Hammers 5-1 and Brentford 2-1.

Saturday’s fixture is the third consecutive away assignment for Eddie Howe’s side and, while they will feel confident about extending that streak, they may have to settle for a share of the spoils.

A point for both sides would not be the worst result, as it would mean Villa will end the weekend no worse than seventh and Newcastle will keep themselves in the top four.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle United tip 1: Draw @ 23/10 with Betfred

Attacking duo in fine form

A big reason for Villa’s impressive form has been how Ollie Watkins has performed. He netted for the third straight game in the 2-0 triumph over Forest last time out.

The English forward has scored nine times in his previous 11 appearances and there is every chance he can break down a Newcastle side who have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five away league games.

Earning the plaudits for the Magpies in the final third has been Alexander Isak, who made it five goals in his past five appearances when hitting the winner at Brentford last time out.

The Sweden international has netted eight times in total from 13 Premier League outings – only Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson are ahead of him in Newcastle’s ranks – and more success could be coming his way in the West Midlands.

Rounding off this #PickYourPunt is for midfield enforcer Joelinton to find his way into the referee’s book. The Brazilian has been cautioned a division-high 11 times so far this season, while in the foul count department his 46 puts him fourth on the offenders’ list.

The Newcastle star always puts in a huge shift and is not one to back out of a challenge, so he could be in the book for a 12th time this term.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle United tip 2: Ollie Watkins and Alexander Isak to score anytime and Joelinton to be carded @ 28/1 with Betfred #PickYourPunt

Set pieces to prove key

Both teams have set-piece specialists to call upon and this could result in quite a few corners and free kicks across the course of the 90 minutes.

The total corners market is an interesting bet for the third and final selection, with the evens price available on over 10.5 corners hard to ignore.

Newcastle have taken a league-high 198 corners so far this season, averaging at just shy of seven per game, while Villa’s total of 120 comes out at four per match.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle United tip 3: Over 10.5 corners @ Evens with Betfred
