Betting tips for Bournemouth vs Newcastle: Premier League preview and odds

Bournemouth will look to end their eight-match winless run this weekend when they play host to Newcastle United in the Premier League in Saturday’s evening kick-off.

Gary O’Neil’s side have slipped into the bottom three after a poor run of results, but a win could help them escape the relegation zone as long as results elsewhere go their way.

Newcastle have struggled to pick up victories in the Premier League of late, but they remain unbeaten in 16 matches in the top flight and they will fancy their chances of extending that record this weekend.

Magpies can continue their push for Europe

Despite their increased spending, Newcastle are still punching above their weight in the Premier League and a top-four finish – with a coveted place in the Uefa Champions League – is within touching distance.

The Magpies are fourth in the table, three points behind third-placed Manchester United and one above Tottenham in fifth.

While the 10-point gap to leaders Arsenal looks too big, Newcastle do have the advantage of having one game in hand over both Manchester clubs.

While the Magpies are enjoying a dream season, which could end their long wait for a trophy by winning the League Cup, they have started to stutter in recent weeks.

They have drawn four of their previous five in the league, but continue to prove they are a tough nut to crack, keeping a clean sheet in six of their previous seven.

That form should be enough to pick up another win without conceding this weekend, with Bournemouth failing to score in six of their last eight.

Cherries can build on resilient display

While Bournemouth lost yet again last weekend, they showed some improvements during their 1-0 defeat at Brighton.

The additions of Antoine Semenyo, Dango Ouattara and Hamed Traore have certainly given the Cherries more potential in the final third, and they only lost in the last few minutes to the Seagulls.

O’Neil has made his side more compact in recent weeks, and while they have yet to turn performances into results, they should be able to keep goal-shy Newcastle at bay during the first half. But we still expect the Magpies to come out on top after 90 minutes.

Expect a low-scoring affair on the South Coast

Newcastle’s form since the start of the season has been exemplary, with Eddie Howe’s side only losing two competitive matches since August.

Only Liverpool got the better of them in the Premier League, while Sheffield Wednesday eliminated them in the third round of the FA Cup.

They are usually watertight at the back on their travels, and they have kept four clean sheets in their previous five matches in all competitions.

That should bode well on their trip to the South Coast, and the signs suggest we will witness a low-scoring match-up at Howe’s former club.

The first meeting between the two sides finished 1-1 in September, while Newcastle ran out 1-0 winners against the Cherries in the EFL Cup in December.

Newcastle should have too much quality in the end, but nobody should be surprised if they win by just one or two-nil.
