Liverpool have excellent form in this fixture

After a 7-0 win over arch rivals Manchester United last time out, confidence has been rejuvenated in Jurgen Klopp’s squad ahead of their trip to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Having thrashed the Cherries 9-0 on Merseyside early in the season, another high-scoring win for the Reds could be on the cards on the South Coast.

When it comes to recent clashes between Bournemouth and Liverpool, it is the Merseysiders who have tended to dominate.

While that 9-0 demolition job on August 27 was something of a freak result, there has been a trend of Liverpool winning while keeping Bournemouth off the scoresheet.

The Reds have won all of their previous seven meetings against the Dorset outfit and in six of those the Cherries failed to score.

With just one goal in their past seven games against Klopp’s side, it looks like being another uphill battle for the hosts when they meet this weekend.

After plenty of hype leading to his arrival at Anfield from PSV Eindhoven in January, it took Cody Gakpo time to adapt to his new surroundings at Liverpool.

He was recording exceptional figures at PSV before going on to impress at the World Cup in Qatar with the Netherlands.

Now starting to settle at Anfield, Gakpo scored a brace against the Red Devils to make it four goals in eight Premier League appearances.

With the visitors likely to create plenty of chances this weekend, Gakpo is worth considering at 11/8 as an any-time scorer.

Goals, corners and cards in the offing

This fixture has not been short of goals in recent years, with an impressive 43 goals scored in these clubs’ previous 10 meetings.

With the amount of attacking threats that Liverpool have in the final third, it could be a struggle for Smith to get through the game without adding to his collection of cards.
