Manchester United vs Leeds United betting tips and analysis

These great rivals are in contrasting form and it is tough to see anything but a home victory on Wednesday at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday to make it four wins in a row in all competitions and 13 on the trot at home, but it was a different story for the Whites who, despite enjoying 70 per cent possession and having 10 shots at goal, went down 1-0 at Nottingham Forest.

That result proved a defeat too far for the Leeds board, who sacked coach Jesse Marsch on Monday with the West Yorkshire club languishing in 17th.

They look to be entrenched in a relegation dogfight and Wednesday’s trip across the Pennines is unlikely to make the situation any easier for whoever replaces the American on a permanent basis.

Hosts to extend home run

A win for the hosts on Wednesday would take them level on points with second-placed Manchester City, albeit having played a game more and with a vastly inferior goal difference.

That shows how far they have come under Erik ten Hag but Saturday’s scrappy 2-1 win over Crystal Palace was a reminder that they are still a work in progress. They also had Casemiro sent off and he will miss this match, robbing his team of much of their midfield security.

Ten Hag’s side are on a four-match winning run but they have still conceded in five of their last seven in all competitions. Leeds have also scored in six of their 10 away league games this season and were frustrated in the 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest by an inspired performance by Keylor Navas.

Manchester United should earn their 14th consecutive home win but it looks set to be an open and attacking game with goals at both ends.

Manchester United vs Leeds tip 1: Manchester United to win and both teams to score @ 9/5 with Betfred

Bruno can land knockout punch

Bruno Fernandes has had a relatively quiet season by his high standards, netting five times and providing four assists in the league.

The improvement of those around him has allowed the Portuguese to favour a quality-over-quantity approach and he seems a far more rounded team player.

However, he has a real thing for playing against Leeds, scoring six times in four career appearances against them.

With Casemiro absent, the 28-year-old may have to play a slightly deeper role on Wednesday but is still likely to find space in and around the box and could add to his career haul against Leeds.

Manchester United vs Leeds tip 2: Bruno Fernandes Anytime Goalscorer @ 15/8 with Betfred

Rash challenges set to land

Marcus Rashford’s form may have caused the Leeds defenders sleepless nights in the build-up to this game. The 25-year-old has been scintillating since returning from the World Cup, scoring 11 times in all competitions since the domestic season resumed, and was on the scoresheet again on Saturday.

Rashford is a good bet to strike again but he may also be on the end of some unwanted attention from the visiting defenders, who may be lacking confidence after a torrid run of form.

Leeds average 2.1 yellow cards per game this season but they may exceed that trying to stop an attack that has failed to score just twice at home in all competitions this season.

Combining Rashford to score in the game and over 29.5 booking points for Leeds (10 points for a yellow card, 25 for a red) may well work out here.

Manchester United vs Leeds tip 3: Marcus Rashford any-time goalscorer and Leeds over 29.5 booking points @ 13/5 with Betfred
