Man Utd vs Brentford betting tips

Manchester United will be desperate to return to winning ways when they entertain Brentford at Old Trafford in the Premier League tonight. It wasn't too long ago that Erik ten Hag's side were being tipped to challenge Arsenal and Manchester City for the ultimate prize but the landscape looks very different now.

The Red Devils are winless in their last three top-flight matches against Liverpool, Southampton and Newcastle. They were largely outclassed against Eddie Howe's side during their 2-0 defeat at St James' Park over the weekend. The loss left United in fifth position, trailing the Toon and Tottenham on goal difference.

Champions League qualification is paramount for Manchester United, and they have a massive 11 days ahead with quick-fire fixtures against Brentford, Everton and Nottingham Forest.

Brentford are also targeting European qualification with the Europa and Conference Leagues within sight. The Bees are seventh in the division and could leapfrog Brighton if they avoid defeat in Manchester.

But it's been a mixed bag since Everton ended Brentford's 12-match unbeaten run. They've since beaten Southampton and drawn with both Leicester and Brighton. However, they'll be fighting tooth and nail to claim their first home/away double versus Manchester United in 86 years after the 4-0 demolition in the reverse fixture.

Battle...

Though Sunday was Manchester United's first defeat since their disastrous performance against Liverpool, many agree that it had been coming.

They've not quite been the same since their Carabao Cup success, and their FA Cup quarter-final victory over Fulham two weeks ago ensured Erik ten Hag’s team will play a minimum of 61 competitive games this season.

The Red Devils looks tired and Brentford aren't the ideal opponent when the squad is leggy. United haven't scored in three successive league games and have never gone four in a row without a goal in the Premier League era.

Thomas Frank’s side have drawn more Premier League games than anyone else this season, and we think the Bees double chance is excellent value at 5/4.

Another battle…

Lisandro Martinez vs Ivan Toney should be blockbuster.

The Manchester Unite centre-back was hauled off at half time after suffering a torrid 45 minutes in the reverse fixture back in August.

The Argentine, 25, will remember the contest well, and should be eager to right those wrongs tonight.

Martinez has picked up 10 bookings in 42 appearances this season, including two in his last three top-flight matches.

And another battle…

Expect tackles to be flying in left, right and centre at Old Trafford this week. And if that's the case, Aaron Hickey and Marcel Sabitzer should be right in the thick of the action.

Hickey has attempted nine tackles in the last two matches, while no Manchester United player has attempted more than Sabitzer in the absence of Casemiro, who remains suspended.
