Blades to cut through in battle of Championship sides

A wonderful opportunity awaits Sheffield United and Blackburn with the Championship duo just one win away from a trip to Wembley and a place in the FA Cup semi-final.

Both teams are flying high in the second tier and a victory here could further boost confidence in the dressing room.

The Blades overcame top-flight giants Tottenham 1-0 last time, adding to their triumphs against Millwall and Wrexham.

Rovers are in the quarter-finals after a win away at Premier League strugglers Leicester, so both teams have proved they can take on more illustrious competition.

This should be a really interesting game with a Wembley carrot dangled in front of the teams.

Although both are in the running for promotion to the Premier League, and there may be the temptation to switch personnel around, each manager could go with the tried and tested.

Sheffield United showed plenty of steel on Wednesday evening, coming from a goal down to defeat Sunderland 2-1.

Blackburn also secured a midweek triumph by the same scoreline as a late Ryan Hedges strike defied Reading at Ewood Park.

The Blades’ home form this season has generally been good although they have lost two of their past three at Bramall Lane.

However, the fans managed to create a cauldron of an atmosphere against Spurs in the previous round of the competition and Antonio Conte’s men struggled to respond.

Blackburn have made Ewood Park a fortress this season, winning 13 of 18 league matches on their own turf.

However, they have largely struggled away from home. Ten defeats in the Championship have arguably cost them a chance of currently being in the top two.

While they have won three matches away from home in the FA Cup to reach this stage of the competition, this game may have the feel of a league contest with both sides in the same division.

Blackburn have lost only one of their past 10 but United’s squad are so strong and the Blades may just have too much.

Sheffield United have also won all of their previous four meetings with Blackburn at Bramall Lane. Rovers’ last win at the ground was in January 1994.

Sheffield United vs Blackburn tip 1: Sheffield United to win and both teams to score @ 13/5 with bet365

McAtee set to continue good form

One of Sheffield United’s most impressive players at the minute is on-loan Manchester City starlet James McAtee – and he displayed more of his dazzling ability against Sunderland in midweek.

He scored against the Black Cats with a lovely side-footed finish into the far corner and was a general nuisance with his ball-carrying and passing.

McAtee has been called up again to the England under-21 side and his reputation continues to grow, meaning Rovers will have their work cut out to try to stop him.

He has scored five in his last 24, a reasonable return for a midfielder, and now he will look to put Blackburn to the sword.

Rovers have been good defensively this season but have still let in 27 away from home in the Championship and are without a clean sheet in seven. So McAtee may capitalise, given his lovely dribbling ability and clever movement going forward.

Travis to draw ire of the referee

Lewis Travis is a home-grown player for Blackburn and is a fans’ favourite because of his tough nature and propensity for a big tackle.

However, his aggressive side can sometimes get him into trouble. He has been booked nine times for Rovers this season and can get himself too pumped up sometimes.

With Sheffield United likely to have more possession, Rovers will have to do a lot of ball-winning – and Travis may fall foul of the referee.

Sheffield United vs Blackburn tip 3: Lewis Travis to be booked @ 15/8 with bet365
