Blades can catch Ten Hag’s boys cold

The international break has given both Sheffield United and Manchester United the chance to regroup after disappointing starts to the Premier League season, and that could make for an interesting clash at Bramall Lane on Saturday night.

The Blades are desperate to make up ground after collecting just one point from their opening eight games, but the Red Devils have not hit top gear and have been fortunate in some of their wins.

Sheffield United fans would have expected a relegation battle after promotion from the Championship, but a solitary point has been little to show for the team’s efforts so far.

The disappointment was compounded when they were brushed aside by Newcastle 8-0 the last time they were in action at Bramall Lane, but there have been occasions when they have been competitive.

Champions Manchester City had to fight all the way to win in South Yorkshire, while leaders Tottenham needed two injury-time goals to seal a 2-1 victory.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have looked shaky, suffering a 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace and also being comprehensively beaten by Spurs, Arsenal and Brighton.

Boss Erik ten Hag is still struggling to field a settled back four, which has contributed to new goalkeeper Andre Onana’s shaky start, and 2/1 for Sheffield United to get something from the game is an attractive price.

McBurnie should cause problems

Sheffield United scored just four goals in their opening eight games, but the power of Oli McBurnie could cause their visitors a few issues on Saturday.

The Scottish striker has yet to open his account in this season’s top flight, but he was a strong force last term when he scored 13 Championship goals.

He has been getting his act together in recent weeks – with a couple of efforts at goal in each of his past four appearances, and five of them on target – so it would not be a surprise if he could get off the mark against a shaky rearguard at 7/2.

Bosnian could go into the book

For a bet builder selection, it looks best to start with both teams to score.

Manchester United have kept just two clean sheets in their past 10 Premier League matches. They can expect heavy pressure from a team desperate to appease their fans after the Newcastle thrashing and who need to get off the bottom of the table.

Sheffield United’s Bosnian defender Anel Ahmedhodzic looks a likely candidate for a caution. He has had three in his eight appearances this term.

All those bookings have come in matches at Bramall Lane and he had his name taken in 12 Championship games last season.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes should also be supported to have at least one shot on target.

That has happened in 11 of his 14 games for the Red Devils and Portugal this season and the midfielder has had 15 goal attempts in his past four matches for the Old Trafford outfit.
