Beverley each-way tip: Panama City shaping up to defy outsider odds

16:30 Beverley: A Little Bit Of Bev Handicap (1 mile 100 yards)

The four-year-old Panama City did fairly well as a two and three-year-old, winning a 7.5-furlong Beverley maiden and running solidly over six to seven furlongs, postmarking a high of 78.

This year he ran poorly twice before being sold on at the July 23 Horses In Training sale for just 2000 Guineas, switching from Tim Easterby's yard to Ian McInnes and has now raced twice more, going off at 100/1 both times.

On his latest run at Beverley, he showed a glimpse of a return to form with a staying-on fifth of 10 off a mark of 65 from an unfavourable high draw, postmarking 62.

That day he wore a first-time tongue-tie which was probably why he ran a better race. It's retained today and that makes him interesting now he drops to 61 with useful three-pound claimer Harry Burns on board.

That nets him down to 58 and he would probably win this if he replicated that 62 postmark, and his low draw improves his chance further.

He does need to prove his stamina to make this distance, but I think that's a distinct probability, based upon his pedigree with his brother winning over 11 furlongs, and half-brother a winner over nine.

The current price of 28/1 looks a decent each-wayshout, and I wouldn't be surprised if he drifts further near the off, but if the movement is the other way, then he retains value down to the 16/1 mark.
