Big Bets Review: Multi punter turns $1k into $49k

Here are some of the hits and misses as reported by the bookies from Saturday's racing around Australia with a massive $256,000 TopSport multi going by the wayside in the last leg after the hard early work had been done.

HITS

Randwick Race 1 No.1 Osipenko – $11,000 @ $2.10 (TopSport)

Randwick Race 1 No.1 Osipenko – $5000 @ $2.20 (Palmerbet)

Looked a little dicey in the straight as he wandered about and then got into a bumping duel with Williamsburg. Once Nash got him straightened up it was all over as the rest of the field offered little resistance.

Randwick Race 7 No.2 Militarize – $20,000 @ $2.05 (TopSport)

Randwick Race 7 No.2 Militarize – $5000 @ $2.10 (Palmerbet)

This punter would have been cursing Joao Moreira as he failed to slot in and was 3 wide no cover the entire trip. It mattered little however as he ambled up to them on the bend and then went straight past Bases Loaded as he got in to top gear. Top win.

Ascot Race 8 No.2 Overpass $2,500 @ $12 (Topsport)

The Quokka was a rip-roaring race, and the Baker-trained galloper – having his first start as a gelding at career start No.21 – held on to beat the low-flying Amelia's Jewel to deny the locals what would've been a popular victory. This punter, though, would've been fist-pumping big time with the number in the frame.

Sandown Race 8 No.1 Pinstriped $16,000 @ $3.20 Win (Topsport)

MULTI (Long Arm / Killiako / Pinstriped): $1000 @ $49.54 (Topsport)

The dominant win of Pinstriped at Sandown sealed a large collect for the multi punter, with the two prior legs lobbing at Morphettville. What an easy watch to cap off a juicy multi too, stuff dreams are made of.

Toowoomba Race 5 No.3 Just Engaged $10,000 @ $3.30 (Topsport)

The Currie-trained galloper came from well back in the pack to cut through them for a soft 2L win.

MISSES

Randwick Race 5 No. 6 Coal Crusher – $2000 @ $6 (Palmerbet)

Absolutely flew the gates and took control of the race from the front without much pressure. Chad Schofield looked very confident at the 300m mark and looked to have rated him to perfection but he fell in hole the last 100m and ended up finishing fourth.

Randwick Race 8 No.1 Zaaki – $4000 @ $6 (Palmerbet)

There didn't look to be a stack of pace on paper but 4 of them came out vying for the lead before Lost and Running took off. It left Zaaki in a perfect spot and he ran on well in the straight but unfortunately he was no match for the 3yo Giga Kick.

Sandown Race 8 No.3 So Si Bon – $3000 @ $5 (Palmerbet)

Punter was confident the rising 9yo would give a big show and he jumped well from the wide barrier but then everyone inside kicked up and he worked a bit before finally getting cover from Rolls. Didn't sprint in the straight but held his ground okay for 5th.

Toowoomba Race 9 No.7 Ilikeit Iloveit $16,000 @ $4.40 (Topsport)

Settled back in the field on the fence and while she hit the line OK, they had to settle for third.

Sandown Race 9 No.7 Worsfold (Place) $10,000 @ $3.40 (Topsport)

The Ryan-trained galloper finished 11th, some 3.2L off the all-important placings.

MULTI (Startantes / D‘jumbuck / Giga Kick): $1000 @ $256.22 (Topsport)

It was a last-leg letdown for this punter who was on for a whopping collect after Giga Kick and D'jumbuck, only for Startantes to be well-beaten at Eagle Farm.
