Blue Jays odds vs. White Sox for July 6 doubleheader: Toronto favoured in Game 1 behind Berrios

Yesterday’s game between the Blue Jays and White Sox was rained out meaning we’ve got a double-header on deck today.

The pregame narrative: Toronto won the series opener on Tuesday behind a two-run home run from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Jays are favoured in Game 1 of the doubleheader with Jose Berrios on the bump.

Blue Jays odds vs. White Sox

MLB odds as of 10:34 a.m. ET on 07/06/23.

Game 1 preview

Toronto has dominated Chicago this season, earning a three-game sweep of the White Sox at Rogers Centre back in April to pair with Tuesday’s 4-3 victory.

The Blue Jays are 7-3 against the White Sox dating back to the start of 2022.

Berrios was lights out in his lone start against Chicago this season, fanning nine batters over seven shutout innings in a win on April 25. So why is Toronto just a -125 favourite?

Well, Berrios has struggled mightily against Chicago in the past. As a former Twin, the righty has gone up against the White Sox plenty in his career, and the current lineup has a .294 BA and .448 SLG against him in 163 at-bats, per Baseball Savant.

Toronto will go up against Lance Lynn, who is in the midst of his worst career season.

The once down-ballot Cy Young vote-getter has a 6.47 ERA to pair with a 5.10 FIP in 17 starts. He still owns a solid 10.9 K/9, though, and has registered 30 strikeouts across his past three starts.

Lynn gave up four earned runs in five innings against the Blue Jays earlier this year.

All four matchups between the Blue Jays and White Sox this season have fallen under today’s 9.0 run total.

Player prop markets

Berrios gets a White Sox team that has been terrible versus righties, which is why we’re betting on the right-hander to eclipse the over on both his strikeout and total outs props.

Against RHPs, Chicago ranks 29th in MLB in OBP and 27th in OPS, while getting punched out at the 11th-highest clip.

Here are some select prop offerings for the game:

MLB odds as of 2:53 p.m. ET on 07/06/23.

Five different Blue Jays have 15-plus at-bats against Lynn, including Guerrero (3-for-15) and Springer (7-for-24, 10 Ks). Brandon Belt is 7-for-18 lifetime versus Lynn, which is good for a .389 batting average.

Game 2 of today’s doubleheader is projected to start at 8:10 p.m. ET with Yusei Kikuchi pitching for Toronto.

Chicago’s pitcher for the nightcap remains TBD as of 3 p.m. ET and odds are off the board. We’ll update this post with information once betting lines are set.
