Blue Jays vs. Angels prediction and odds for Friday, April 7

It wasn't the best debut for Chris Bassitt, allowing nine earned runs in less than four innings of work.

He will make his second start for the Toronto Blue Jays in Los Angeles against the Angles as he looks to contain the explosive power of Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays offense will look to continue to hit lefties well when they face Patrick Sandoval on Friday night.

Here's the odds and our best bet for Friday's matchup:

Toronto has hit lefties well dating back to last season, 10th in slugging in 2022 and are hitting .310 against them this season albeit across a small sample size. While Sanodval is a strong arm in the Angels rotation, I believe this matchup should suit the team well given the depth the lineup has at hitting souhtpaws. Not to mention, the Angels have a medicore bullpen backing up Sandoval.

On the other side, I'll buy low on Bassist. While he struggled mightily in his first start, he is still a year removed from being the foundation of a Mets rotation that won 100 games and pitched to a 3.42 ERA in a career high 181 2/3 innings.

I believe this price is an overreaction to Bassist's first start and is overlooking his track record of success. Not to mention, the Blue Jays lineup bolsters far more upside, hitting .291 thorugh the young season while the Angels check in at .243.

I'll back Toronto as small underdogs.
