Kevin Gausman (1-2, 3.65) will pitch for the Blue Jays against Clarke Schmidt (0-1, 8.79). Gausman will be working on five days of rest and Schmidt on four.

Gausman was rocked by the Astros in his last start Monday in Houston. The defending World Series champs scored eight runs (seven earned) in 4.2 innings to go with seven hits, five strikeouts and two walks as Gausman took the loss.

Gausman, whose AL Cy Young odds are +1200, has plenty of experience facing the Yankees with an 8-7 record and an ERA of 3.49 in 27 career games, including 21 starts.

Schmidt is also coming off a rough outing against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium in which he also was the losing pitcher. He was tagged for four runs and six hits in 3.2 innings while striking out five and walking none.

All three of Schmidt’s career appearances against the Blue Jays have come in relief and he has a 0-1 record despite a 0.00 ERA.

The Yankees are 1-3 when Schmidt starts in 2023. He is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in two starts at home and 0-0 with an 8.44 ERA in three starts during the day.
