Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays did very well against the Red Sox over the weekend, bagging a 3-0 shutout in the opener on Friday. Toronto followed that up with a 4-3 win in game two and a 3-2 victory in the finale. In Sunday’s game, the Blue Jays got an RBI from Matt Chapman (two hits), Kevin Kiermaier and Daulton Varsho (home run).

In the starter role for the Tuesday opener, the Blue Jays are going with Yusei Kikuchi. This year Kikuchi is 9-6 with a 3.81 ERA and 163 Ks in 153.2 innings. Kikuchi is 0-3 with a 4.23 ERA over his last seven starts.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably go with the Blue Jays here. Kikuchi is coming off a rough start however, and he’ll need to bounce back. On September 13 Kikuchi put up six earned on five hits with two walks in 5.0 innings versus Texas. Prior to that however, he had just three earned in 9.2 innings. Kikuchi is 0-3 in his last seven outings though, so it’s been a while since he’s recorded a W. As for Schmidt, he’s been okay lately with nine earned in 16.1 innings over his last three starts. This should be a pretty fun starter matchup, but if Kikuchi can get some scoreboard support I think he’ll keep the Yankees bats at bay.
