Will Zalatoris won the St Jude Championship yesterday. He beat Austria's Sepp Straka in a three-hole playoff. This week the PGA Tour stops in Delaware at Wilmington Country Club for the BMW Championship. The tournament is a no cut event for players who are not preoccupied with trying to win the trophy. Next week's Tour Championship takes place at East Lake. The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup rankings are eligible to play. It's the first time Wilmington has hosted a Pga Tour event full stop. Since 2016 it's been hosted at a different venue every year. BMW is the most recent of the three PGAs to be held.

Wilmington Country Club’s South Course was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr in the 1950s. It has gone through multiple renovations since then, the most recent of which came in 2021 following a tornado. The course has been extended to a long 7534 yards and will play as a par 71 this week. The par 5s are no gimme birdie chances, all measure over 580 yards. There are also some tricky fescue rough and strategically placed bunkers.

BMW Championship 2022 is a bombers course. The generous landing areas and hole lengths set up perfectly for strong, long drivers. Precision iron-play to the right areas of the greens will be a must. Good putter will also be important. 3-putt avoidance is also important with holes between 400-450 yards making up 1/3 of holes around the course, which is very long.

68 of the 70 qualifiers will tee it up this week. Tommy Fleetwood and Lanto Griffin are again missing. Wyndham Clark is the final man into the field.

Cam Davis is playing at Wilmington Country Club this week. He has been in good form recently, finishing 13th last week, but has had some problems with his putter recently. Davis was a #4 ranked amateur before turning pro. He's gained strokes in every start in 2022 and ranks 16th off-the-tee, 35th in driving distance and 37th on 400-450 yard par 4s. His putters have been solid too, gaining strokes on 8 of his previous 13 starts. Last week he ranked 22nd in the field. The most recent week his approach was poor, which is a problem for him.
