They have both won the Travers and Belmont Stakes. The winner of the Classic is the best horse of their generation. It is only an endlessly wide trip in the Kentucky Derby that kept him from being 9-for-9.
Essential Quality is a favorite to win the Breeders' Cup Classic. He breezed 6 furlongs in 1:12.40 on Oct. 23 at Churchill Downs. Godolphin has nine Cup victories but is 0-for-14 in the Classic, while Saez is 1- for-34 in Breeder's Cup and 0 for 2 in Classic races.
