Brewers vs. Padres prediction and odds for Friday, April 14 (Offense Could be Hard to Come by in San Diego)

The Milwaukee Brewers started off their trip out west poorly after only taking one of three in Arizona, but last night in Game 1 of this four-game series with the San Diego Padres they bounced back with a 4-3 extra innings win behind Rowdy Tellez’s three RBI night. 

Now, they’ll look to really take the upper hand in the series with Eric Lauer pitching against Michael Wacha. Lauer is 1-1 in his two starts for Milwaukee with a 7.71 ERA and Wacha is 2-0 with an even 3.00 ERA. 

Here are the odds for the Brewers and Padres in San Diego tonight, Game 2 of this four-game series. 

Last time out Michael Wacha only allowed two hits and no runs to the Braves in six innings of work. Atlanta is 4th in team OPS and a top 10 run producing team so far this year.

Now, he’ll face Milwaukee who is outside the top 10 in runs scored and are ninth in OPS. Brian Anderson has cooled off after his hot start for Milwaukee so their lineup hasn’t been quite as imposing. Especially with Christian Yelich off to a slow start at the top of the order. 

Another reason that the Brewers are big underdogs on the road, besides the questions about their lineup, the big question about Eric Lauer.

He’s allowed eight earned runs and only pitched 9.1 innings this season. He’s given up five home runs. His expected slugging percentage is .592 which is 12th percentile in the MLB. 

Lauer has had issues, but San Diego hasn’t punished lefties this season. Juan Soto and Xander Bogaerts both have an OPS in the low .500s against left-handed pitching this season.

They are 21st in on base percentage against lefties and despite some added power with Nelson Cruz in the lineup, they won’t have enough traffic on the basepaths to run away with this one.
