Padres vs Diamondbacks Prediction

The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres will meet in Phoenix for their divisional series finale this Saturday from Chase Field. Arizona finally stopped the bleeding with a 3-0 game two victory.

Padres Preview & Projected Starter

San Diego moved to 56-61 after losing to Arizona. The Padres couldn’t get anything going at the plate last night, and they’ll look to rebound in game three. The San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per game, while batting .228, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.76 ERA, with a 1.23 WHIP.

Seth Lugo (4-6, 4.19 ERA, 90 K) is set to start for San Diego. The eighth-year righty did not perform well versus Los Angeles last week, surrending a season-high eight runs through 3.1 innings pitched to take his sixth loss. Lugo hasn’t had an outing like that this season, so we can chalk that up to facing the high-powered Dodgers, and he could bounce back here against a struggling Arizona ballclub.

Padres Player Trends & Props

Juan Soto has recorded a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he leads the Padres in home runs (24) and RBI (72), with 108 hits.

Manny Machado is hitless over his last three contests, but he’s still posting splits of .253/21/66.

Fernando Tatis plated two runs in the series finale versus LAD,  and he’s posting a solid line of .259/19/60.

Xander Bogaerts has collected a hit in eight of the last ten games,  and he leads the Pads in hits (109), while batting .265.

Ha-Seong Kim brings an 14-game hit streak into this matchup, and he leads the Pads in (.290), with 15 homers and 41 RBI.

Diamondbacks Preview & Projected Starter

Arizona enters at 58-59 after defeating San Diego. The Diamondbacks finally got back into the win column, but the damage may have already been done to their playoff hopes. The Arizona offense is scoring 4.34 runs per game, while batting .257, with a .326 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.41 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP.

Brandon Pfaadt (0-6, 7.16 ERA, 42 Ks) will get the ball for Arizona. The rookie pitcher has not adjusted to life in the majors well, and he dropped his last outing against the Dodgers, after allowing four runs thru 4.2 innings. Pflaat has now dropped three straight starts, while allowing three runs or more in eight of his last ten appearances.

DBacks Player Trends & Props

Corbin Carroll has collected a hit in four of the previous five games, and he’s posting nice splits of .276/21/59.

Ketel Marte snapped a five-game hitless streak with a pair of knocks in the game one loss, and he’s first on the team in batting (.284) and hits (117), with eighteen homers and 58 RBI.

Christian Walker has multiple hits in back-to-back games, and he’s Arizona’s leader in home runs (23) and RBI (70).

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has produced a run in five of the last eight games, and he’s posting a line of .255/18/61.

Corey’s Free Pick

San Diego was silenced by a struggling Arizona team yesterday, but they come into a very good spot to strike some retribution. The Pads should be licking their chops at the opportunity to face Brandon Pfaadt, who’s struggled mightily thru his first months in the majors. The Over will be in play for security, but I like San Diego getting back into the win column here.
