Brighton vs. Newcastle Odds, Predictions & Betting Tips

Saturday evening we have a huge clash between Brighton and Newcastle at the American Express Community Stadium, live on Sky Sports with a 17:30 kick off. Our of our best betting-brains Dean Woodward is on hand to preview the action and provide his best bets.

Brighton's buoyant start faced a setback with a surprising 3-1 loss to West Ham, despite dominating possession and attempts. Defensive lapses scuppered their performance, costing them heavily against the clinical counters from West Ham. Brighton aim to avoid consecutive defeats for the first time since October 2022.

Brighton face injury concerns as Julio Enciso and Jakub Moder remain sidelined, with doubts surrounding Tariq Lamptey's fitness. Manager De Zerbi may introduce changes, including Jason Steele in goal and Joao Pedro in attack. New signing Carlos Baleba could debut, vying for a midfield spot with Billy Gilmour and Mahmoud Dahoud.

Newcastle experienced a heart-wrenching 2-1 loss to Liverpool despite holding a late lead against ten men. Eddie Howe remains hopeful after their promising early-season form, despite gathering just three points from nine. However, Newcastle face a daunting task as they haven't won any of their last six Premier League visits to Brighton and have claimed just one victory in their last five away league matches. Keeping a clean sheet has proved elusive, with none in their last ten on the road, although they did hold Brighton to a goalless draw last season.

For Newcastle, injuries persist with Joe Willock and Emil Krafth still out, and Sven Botman facing assessment due to an ankle issue. Captain Jamaal Lascelles' availability remains uncertain amid a police investigation. Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn are expected to maintain their defensive roles, while a midfield trio of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton looks likely. In attack, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon are set to feature, with Elliot Anderson pushing for his first start of the season.

Brighton vs Newcastle Tips

Both teams to score, over 25.5 match shots

Three games into the Premier League season and both of these top sides have shown huge frailties defensively. Brighton were dismantled on the counter attack by West Ham last week in a shock 3-1 defeat, whilst Newcastle let a 1-0 lead against the ten men of Liverpool slip, going on to lose 2-1 due to Darwin Nunez heroics.

Both teams to score has landed in all of Brightons three matches this season, which includes games with Wolves and Luton where they would have been favoured for a clean sheet. They’ve also been rampant at the other end, netting nine times already this season. Newcastle matches have also seen goals this season, with both teams to score only failing against Manchester City. This low match shot line helps us to get a much better price on both teams to score and has sailed in with relative ease in all of their combined matches this season, again barring Manchester City, who just seem to be on another level compared to everyone else. This should be an exciting end to end game with both teams playing with high energy and pressing, hopefully leading to a shot-filled encounter.

James Milner to be booked

In a game of this magnitude with both teams looking to make amends for their weekend performances, temperatures could run high here on the south coast.

An impressive performance again from Anthony Gordon (something I thought I'd never say) against Liverpool, he was a real handful for Trent who struggled throughout – and could have been sent off. Milner at the young age of 37 will have a hard time dealing with the pace and agility of Gordon who will look to get at him all game. Milner may be fit as a fiddle in terms of endurance, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the youthful burst of direct pace catch him off guard. Milner has already been booked once this season and was lucky against West Ham after making three fouls that went unpunished.
