Bruins vs Canucks Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

J.T. Miller has been on a scoring spree for Vancouver down the stretch, and we expect the star winger to shine on Saturday when he faces a struggling Boston netminder. Read more in our Bruins vs. Canucks betting picks.

Two of the top teams will collide tonight at Rogers Place when the Vancouver Canucks host the Boston Bruins in the latest NHL odds.

Surprisingly, both clubs have been struggling of late with Vancouver on a season-worst four-game losing streak and Boston winning just two of its last seven contests.

Despite his team’s woes, J.T. Miller continues to light up the score sheet for the Canucks and will feature in my best bet tonight. Keep reading for that and more in my NHL picks and predictions for Canucks vs. Bruins on Saturday, February 24.

Bruins vs Canucks predictions

The Vancouver Canucks suffered a fourth straight loss on Thursday, this time falling 5-2 to the Kraken. Vancouver mustered just 21 shots on net, with J.T. Miller recording two of those shots and one of the club’s two tallies.

Despite his team’s four-game skid, Miller has been one of the league’s top goal-scorers over the last month or so. The Canucks forward has eight goals in 10 games in February, which ranks tied for second in the NHL over that span behind only Auston Matthews (12).

The star forward has done most of his damage in the last two weeks as he’s scored in three straight games — a span which includes a hat trick against the Wild this past Monday — and in five of his last seven contests.

Miller and the Canucks will likely go up against Jeremy Swayman, who’s in the midst of his worst stretch of the season for the Boston Bruins. Swayman owns a .900 SV% and a 3.37 GAA through five starts this month while posting a sub-.900 SV% in three of those games and giving up at least three goals in four of those outings.

Put one of the league’s hottest scorers up against a cold netminder, and I like Miller’s chances to find the back of the net again tonight.

My best bet: Miller anytime goalscorer (+190 at SIA)

J.T. Miller anytime goal

Canucks to score first

Over 6.5 goals

Along with a Miller goal, I like the Canucks to open to scoring in tonight’s matchup. Vancouver leads the NHL with 39 game-opening goals and has broken the ice in each of their last six outings.

The Canucks have seen at least seven goals scored in two of their last three contests, thanks in large part to shoddy goaltending, while the Bruins are trending the same way with three of their last four contests seeing 7+ total goals.

Bruins vs Canucks moneyline and Over/Under analysis

We’ve got a pick'em with the visiting Bruins opening at -107 and the Canucks at -105 on home ice. The line hasn’t moved much for either team, though some books now have the hosts as a slight favorite at -115 to -125.

As good as the Canucks have been all season, I’m not a huge fan of this matchup for them as I think the Bruins are the better defensive team and could shut down a Vancouver offense that’s scored just three goals in its last two games.

The Canucks have been outscored 22-12 during their four-game losing streak, though a 10-7 loss to the Wild on Monday skews those numbers drastically. Outside of that seven-goal outburst, Vancouver has managed five goals in its last three outings — an average of 1.67 GPG — and that just won’t cut it against a Boston squad that ranks fifth in GAPG (2.69).

Tonight’s total opened at 6 goals and I’m taking the Over as both clubs have experienced some less-than-stellar goaltending of late.

He hasn’t been officially announced as the starter yet but you’d imagine Thatcher Demko gets the net in an important game for the Canucks. Demko has been in a rut, though, allowing four goals in two of his last three starts while posting a sub-par .903 SV% this month.

Swayman has also had a rough go in February — he allowed five goals on 42 shots against the Oilers on Wednesday and has given up 11 goals total over his last three starts. Boston has cashed the Over in three of its last four contests while the Over is 4-2 in Vancouver’s last six.
