Bubble bursts on Weona Smartone as Niedorp prevails

Tony Gollan's horse Niedorp won the Open Handicap on the Sunshine Coast. Weona Smartone's winning streak came to an end. Rob Heathcote's filly Startantes finished third. She will go to Sydney to race in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes and Group 1 Surround Stake next month. Ryan Maloney's gelding was short-striding but vets found no abnormalities.   The stewards will follow up with the Vandyke stable in coming days. The race was held on a wet track. It was the wrong part of the track for the horses.
