Our Best Prediction: Roaring Success (each-way) @ 17/2

Of those near the front of the market, Roaring Success is hard to ignore if you ask me. This filly showed he quality when winning at Wolverhampton on just her third start back in November, while she made a hugely encouraging winning return to action at Ascot in July.

When she won at the Berkshire venue, she did so at Class 3 level, while the ground was also soft, which is key. She seemed to relish the conditions on that occasion, winning with something in hand, which tells me that her new mark of 81 is workable. She looks ready to tackle a contest of this nature, so don’t be surprised if she’s there at the finish, especially as she ought to appreciate the tricky conditions, which is not something that can be confidently said for every runner in this race.

Our Each Way Prediction: Spioradalta (each-way) @ 14/1

This meeting has become somewhat all about the conditions after the seemingly non-stop rain. The ground is now very soft and after a few races, like yesterday, likely to be heavy. That change in going is enough to discount several horses, many of whom have been pulled from the races that they were due to run in.

One horse who should relish the ground this afternoon is Spioradalta, who to my eyes, is one of the very few genuine soft ground horses in this race. The three-year-old arrives here off the back of a soft-ground win at Chester last time out, staying on well over half a furlong less. He’s only gone up 2lbs for that success, which seems a touch lenient.

This runner generally goes best in Class 4 company, so this is a step up, though he isn’t without form in hugely competitive affairs like this on soft ground. Back in October of last year, he ran second in Class 2 at York with the ground touching soft, so in these conditions, he certainly cannot be ruled out. In fact, I’d say he rates as a very nice each-way bet all the time 14/1 is on offer.
