It was another huge day for Michael Dee with a treble including the Group 1 feature and there looks to be a stack of black bookers to come out of the meeting.

The very inside section of the track was a place most riders tried to avoid but it had little effect on any results. It looked a tough day for horses right on speed, but that was due to tempo and not any bias in the track. The only real favoured leader on the card was Gentleman Roy and he just went too hard setting it up for the closers.

Tricky day for punters with just the two outright favourites saluting with So Unusual and Munhamek both close second elects. Nonconformist was the only knockout result making the quaddie tough to find along with a recent black booker of ours in Sessions Road in the last at $10.

BLACK BOOKERS

BUTCH CASSIDY. Super debut run from this Written Tycoon colt from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable. Slow out to be back beyond midfield, he was getting a perfect smother until having nowhere to go from the 500m and as the winner exploded for home, Ben Melham was still easing the colt to get outside of heels. Only balancing up fully approaching the 200m, he's launched running the third best last 200m split of the entire meeting to be a good thing beaten.

EASY SINGLE. Solid return from this Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained sprinter. He was awkward out of the gates to be further back than expected and he was one of the first to come under full pressure to respond as far out as the 500m mark. He couldn't match the acceleration of the winner and did race tight at the 200m before working home solidly, doing his best work through the line. With a super wet track record, expect him to head back north with plenty of options over the coming months.

WANGO AWARD. This Kevin Corstens-trained daughter of Shamus Award took a giant step up in grade yesterday and showed she's going to be up to winning better races. Drifting back beyond midfield at her first attempt up the Flemington straight, she was just looking to build when Daniel Moor had to wait either side of the 200m with the runner-up crossing in front of them. Balancing up, she's launched over the last 100m and still ran the fastest last 200m split of the entire meeting. She looks ready for longer than the 1000m.

RUNNING BY. She was never going to test the super impressive winner Benedetta but this was a completely luckless return from the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained filly. Smothered up midfield back closer to the inside, Jamie Kah had nowhere to go from as far out as the 500m with the winner giving her windburn at the 300m. She hit the line as hard as anything else in the race, has plenty left in the tank after only sprinting 200m and has all the lower grades to work through in her next few starts.

WOW.

VIRTUOUS CIRCLE. Jury was out a touch after a poor fresh run but a real staying type, this Liam Howley-trained son of Almanzor looks to be right back on track for his main targets. Snagged back to near last, he was just building to his top when hampered by the fall at the 300m and only striking top gear inside the 200m, he's steamed home in the second best last 200m split of the race. Peaking in his next few starts over 2000m and beyond, if Sydney strikes its usual wet autumn, he's a player in all the Group 1s.

BANKER'S CHOICE. I'm not sure which way the Mike Moroney stable are headed with this son of Mongolian Khan, but he looks to be right on track. He was ok fresh on the hard track and in the G2 Blamey Stakes he raced like a horse crying out for longer when not able to match the winners acceleration before working home strong. An outstanding wet track horse, he looks a perfect type for the Brisbane winter and has plenty of options along the way staying just off top grade.

CARDINAL GEM. On what was a huge day for Grahame Begg, this was one runner that didn't feature but his trainer would have gone home pleased with what he saw. He's never been a first-up horse and 1200m isn't his go, so it was no surprise when he was out sprinted after travelling well through the first 500m and just as Logan McNeil was ready to let him go, he raced tight from inside the 250m and went to the line with a few gears in reserve. A perfect trial for the coming prep and a super wet tracker, he's got loads of options.

FORGIVE RUNNERS

ATTRITION. With more luck he wins the Australian Guineas. Three deep exposed the entire trip, he was entitled to stop but was still there only going down through the line.

WILD BELLE. The favourite in race four and she wasn't beaten far with Chris Parnham reporting the filly wanted to hang in before pulling up lame post-race. She can bounce back.

JACQUINOT. His race was over when he stepped awkwardly to be a mile back. With the mile his maximum trip, he just couldn't maintain the long run required and did well to be so close.

ELLIPTICAL. I'm happy to forgive him this run as there were no survivors of the horses that raced on pace and I'm sure he's a much better horse ridden quiet as per his dynamic fresh win.

FORGET RUNNER

TIMOUR. This import had every possible chance at Flemington and ground away for a moderate third. He looks a jumps prospect as I doubt he's fast enough on the flat.

ITSOURTIME. While he doesn't know how to run a bad race, he's just doesn't have the extra gear required in the grade he's stuck in. He now hasn't won a race since Nov 21 and isn't a betting proposition as he's always short.

TUVALU. He's gone for this prep at least. Pulling up lame at Flemington, it would take a Lindsey Smith miracle to get him right for the grade of races he's forced to race in.
