Cavaliers vs Hornets Odds, Lines & Picks (Mar. 14)

The Cleveland Cavaliers will finish up a four-game road trip on Tuesday as they face the slumping Charlotte Hornets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM ET at Spectrum Center. Keep reading for the Cavaliers vs Hornets odds.

This is the second contest in three days between the two, with Cleveland beating Charlotte 114-108 on Sunday. The Hornets have now lost four in a row, while the Cavs look for their fifth win in their last six here.

Cavaliers vs Hornets Odds

The Cavaliers are heavily favored by 7.5 points Tuesday and own an ATS away record of 14-19-2. Charlotte meanwhile hasn’t exactly thrived as a home underdog, going 9-15. Cleveland has already beaten the Hornets twice in 2022-23.

Cavs Could Be in Trouble Without Allen

Although Cleveland is comfortably in fourth place in the NBA Playoff Bracket, the recent injury to Jarrett Allen is very concerning. The Cavs didn’t sign a backup big at the deadline and Kevin Love also left, which means JB Bickerstaff has done a bit of shuffling. Evan Mobley is now starting at the five while Lamar Stevens moved into the first unit.

It’s unknown how long Allen could be sidelined with an eye contusion but for a team aiming to lock down the best possible postseason berth, this is far from ideal. Sunday’s win over the Hornets was by no means convincing either, with Cleveland battling to come back and win after trailing by 16 points.

Darius Garland led the way with 28 points, while Donovan Mitchell added 23. A big fourth quarter proved to be the difference, outscoring Charlotte 33-19. The Cavs did show guts by fighting hard in the second half. Allen is unavailable Tuesday and there’s currently no timetable for his return. Needless to say, everyone else needs to step up with 12 games remaining.

Charlotte Continues to Struggle

The 2022-23 campaign couldn’t be any more miserable for the Hornets. They’re the second-worst team in the East and have already lost star guard LaMelo Ball for the rest of the season. In fact, he was hurt for most of the year, which certainly didn’t help their case. On both ends of the floor, Steve Clifford’s group is just downright poor, ranking 30th in offensive rating and 21st in defensive rating.

Sunday presented an opportunity to take down a team much better than them, but Charlotte couldn’t hold onto the lead. They were outscored 62-49 in the final two periods, with turnovers and fouls evidently playing a part. The Hornets coughed the rock up 19 times and that translated into a whopping 29 points for Cleveland.

For example, Terry Rozier balled out for 27 points and dished out six assists but he also had eight turnovers. PJ Washington also contributed 19 points. The entire starting five finished in double figures. That being said, there were just too many mistakes. Pretty much the story of Charlotte’s season.

Cavaliers vs Hornets Prediction

The Hornets barely ever cover. Plus, Cleveland is playing well lately. I don’t think you’ll see them come out sluggish again.
