Chelsea 'agree £31.5m deal to sell left-back to Premier League rival but out of favour star doesn't want transfer

CHELSEA have agreed a deal for left-back Ian Maatsen to join Burnley.

However, the defender is understood to be reluctant to move to Turf Moor.

According to The Telegraph, the two clubs have agreed on a loan deal which contains a £31.5million obligation to buy.

But The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg is reporting that Maatsen is not keen on a switch to the newly-promoted outfit.

That is despite him spending last season on loan with the Clarets.

Chelsea have given Maatsen permission to speak to Burnley, with the Blues expecting him to leave before the end of the window on Friday evening.

Mauricio Pochettino's men are understood to have placed a sell-on clause within the deal, meaning they will profit from a move if Maatsen was to leave Burnley in the future.

Maatsen's potential departure comes after Marc Cucurella's move to Manchester United broke down over the past 48 hours.

It leaves the Dutchman, 21, down the pecking order behind both Ben Chilwell and Cucurella.

Maatsen has made just four first-team appearances since arriving at Stamford Bridge four years ago.

In that time, he has had loan spells with Charlton and Coventry.

Then, in the 2022/23 campaign, he played 39 of Burnley's 46 league games as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

And he was named in the Championship Team of the Season following a stellar campaign.

He returned to Chelsea in the summer, coming off the bench in their Premier League games against Liverpool and Luton.

He also started as a midfielder in the 2-1 win over Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
