Chelsea vs. Luton Odds, Predictions & Betting Tips

For the third week in a row we have a Premier League game taking place on a Friday evening with Chelsea taking on Luton kicking-off Gameweek 3. Jimmy The Punt is on hand to preview the action and provide us with his best bets.

Following the shock 3-1 defeat at West Ham, Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk put a story of him embracing manager Mauricio Pochettino with the song Three Little Birds by Bob Marley playing in the background.

As expected, this did not go down too well but I think the message the Ukrainian was trying to convey was a correct one; do not panic yet Chelsea fans. One point from their two opening games does not make for good reading, it doesn’t tell the full story though.

The Blues showed great resilience in their opening game with Liverpool. The Reds dominated the opening exchanges and if Mohammed Salah timed his run better and his dinked finish would have counted, the Anfield outfit would have run away with it. Instead, Chelsea equalised moments later and could have won the game.

Their following game at the London Stadium was won and lost one the penalty spot. The Hammers took their ‘big chances’ where-as Chelsea did not. I think there's a lot to be encouraged by and I am confident things will click into place for Pochettino soon.

As I write, the aforementioned Mudryk was not spotted training on Wednesday morning, assuming he is unavailable Friday evening Ben Chilwell should continue at left wing back. With eight players unavailable, Moises Caicedo should come into midfield, despite a pretty desperate debut last Sunday, and Nicolas Jackson should continue to lead the line.

Luton were not in action last weekend but Rob Edwards could name the same XI that lost 4-1 to Brighton on opening weekend.

With Reece James set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Malo Gusto should get a run in the Chelsea side at right wing back.

His offensive output against West Ham was not much to get excited about but I certainly think there is enough juice in the 5/2 price for him to have two shots or more against Luton.

Ben Chilwell, on the other flank, is odds on to achieve the same feat, as is Ian Maatsen, his understudy.

Chilwell has racked up three shots, an assist and had a goal disallowed so far this campaign. Against Liverpool, James had a shot before coming off injured, as did Gusto in East London last Sunday and in that game Gusto also had four touches in the box.

Pochettino’s side creates chances for its wing backs, so I fancy Gusto to rack up some shots against the ante-post favourites for relegation at Stamford Bridge on Friday.

On opening day at home to the Hatters, both Pervis Estupinan and Solly March had three shots each for Brighton which is exciting as these were the two players operating in similar roles to what we will see Chilwell and Gusto on Friday.
