Chelsea 'will target new midfielder in January transfer window with Ajax star Edson Alvarez top of wishlist'

Chelsea will look to sign a new central midfielder in January transfer window. Edson Alvarez, 24, is the main target. Chelsea tried to buy Romeo Lavia from Southampton on deadline day. Southampton rejected Chelsea's £40m bid. They signed Juventus' Denis Zakaria instead.  Alvarez has made 108 appearances for Ajax, scoring nine goals and assisting a further five.

Chelsea are keen to sign a midfielder in January transfer window. Edson Alvarez is top of their wishlist. Dinamo Moscow's Arsen Zakharyan is also being considered. Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League table.
