Oakland Athletics

The A’s posted an 8-5 win in the Thursday opener of this set, then followed that up with a nice 12-4 win in game two. Oakland’s Nick Allen came away with four hits, two runs, five RBI and a homer in that big win. On Saturday the Athletics fell behind 5-0 after three innings and never got close in a 6-2 loss. Both Tony Kemp and Zack Gelof provided two walks apiece in the defeat and Jonah Bride had the only RBI. .

For the starter job in the Sunday game the A’s will send out Paul Blackburn. Over his 15 games (14 starts) so far Blackburn is 3-3 with a 4.00 ERA and 80 strikeouts over 78.2 innings. Blackburn is 2-2 with a 3.24 ERA in his last seven starts.

Chicago White Sox

Over on the White Sox’ side, they couldn’t get much going on six team hits in the Friday loss. Lenyn Sosa and Eloy Jimenez each had a homer along the way, however. In the Saturday game three, Chicago got three RBI and a homer from Yoan Moncada, while both Sosa and Andrew Benintendi each had a solo home run as well.

It’ll be Mike Clevinger in the start for the White Sox on Sunday. In his 17 starts this year Clevinger is 5-6 with a 3.47 ERA and 75 Ks in 90.2 innings. Clevinger is 2-3 with a 2.58 ERA over his last seven starts.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll take a stab on the White Sox in this one. You could make a case either way however, and Clevinger needs a good bounce-back start. In his last outing, Clevinger gave up four earned in 5.0 innings during a loss to Seattle. Prior to that Clevinger was pitching well though, with just one earned run in 13.0 innings over two starts. In the Saturday game the Sox got off to a great start and ended up getting hits from six different players in a nice win. I think Clevinger will have a solid outing here, and if the offense keeps it up I think Chicago can even things up in the series.
