Chiefs vs Highlanders Predictions

The Chiefs will be licking their lips at the prospect of the Highlanders defence. He visitors have shipped more than 50 points in their opening two fixtures of the season.

I am backing the Chiefs to cover the -23 handicap.

  • Chiefs have won their last 2 matches with a bonus point.
  • Highlanders have lost their last 2 matches.
  • Highlanders have lost their last 2 matches by 40 & 37 points.
  • Highlanders have conceded 50+ points in their last 2 matches.

Head to Head

The Chiefs beat the Highlanders 26-16 in their last meeting. That took place in February 2022.

Chiefs Form

The Chiefs sit at the top of the Super Rugby table after the first two rounds. They are on 10 points following two successive bonus point victories.

In round one the Chiefs were magnificent, beating the Crusaders 31-10 away from home. Last week, in Melbourne, the Hamilton-based outfit followed it up with a 52-29 win over Moana.

Given the Highlanders performance this season so far, the Chiefs will certainly be looking for another bonus point win.

Chiefs Injuries & Team News

There are no reported injuries for the Chiefs. We will know more once they select their side later this week.

Highlanders Form

The Highlanders have made the worst possible start to Super Rugby. They are bottom of the table after the opening two rounds with a -77 points difference.

At home in round one against the Blues, the Highlanders were destroyed 60-20. It was a performance they will want to forget but they weren’t much better in round two.

Last Friday the Landers’ were beaten 52-15 by the Crusaders in Melbourne. It is hard to decide which performance was worse in the opening two weeks, but they have their work cut out if they are to compete against the Chiefs.

Highlanders Injuries & Team News

Given how the first two games have gone, I expect the Highlanders to ring the changes this weekend.
