Hurricanes vs Blues Predictions

This should be a very tight contest between two strong sides featuring a number of New Zealand internationals. I am backing the Hurricanes to get within four points at home with a victory against the odds on the cards.

Head to Head

The Hurricanes stole a 33-32 win in Auckland when these sides faced off in 2022.

Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes are one of only three sides to win their opening two Super Rugby games this season. They are second to the Chiefs with a point separating them.

In round one the Hurricanes thrashed the Reds 47-13 away before beating the Melbourne Rebels 39-33 last weekend. While they cruised in week one, round two offered a completely different challenge.

Still, the Canes pulled through although they failed to pick up a bonus point. That will not concern them too much so early in the season.

Hurricanes Injuries & Team News

Captain, Ardie Savea has been suspended for one match after his antics last weekend. For that he misses this weekend. Brett Cameron has overcome his injury so starts at flyhalf on debut. Devan Flanders also returns to the side after sitting out last week due to concussion.

Blues Form

The Blues have been the most consistent New Zealand franchise, along with the Crusaders over the last three seasons. They lost the final at home last season but will be looking to go one better this time around.

The Auckland side began their season with a bang, beating the Highlanders 60-20 away from home. Last week the Blues however came unstuck against the Brumbies in Melbourne, losing 25-20.

It was a minor upset in the competition, but the Blues have the quality to bounce back from that.

Blues Injuries & Team News

Despite defeat last weekend, the Blues squad remains unchanged. The only change to their starting side sees AJ Lam at right wing with Mark Telea moving to the bench.
