Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks were able to keep pace in the early innings Friday but ultimately faltered in a 9-6 loss. Ketel Marte had a great day at the plate on a 3-for-5 line, four RBI and two homers. In game two Arizona got just four hits in a 4-2 loss. Corbin Carroll posted a solo homer and Ketel Marte added one hit and one RBI.

Jose Ruiz will take the mound for the Diamondbacks on Sunday. This year Ruiz is 2-1 with a  5.48 ERA in 37 games (zero starts). He’s got 38 Ks in 42.2 innings. Ruiz managed one clean inning versus Cincinnati with zero hits and a walk in his last appearance.

Cincinnati Reds

Over on the Reds’ side, they got a big effort from Matt McLain and Spencer Steer in the opener. That pair combined for four hits, two runs and seven RBI. In game two Cincinnati got a two-run blast from Jake Fraley in the victory. TJ Friedl also added two hits with a solo homer in a pretty economical offensive outing.

It’ll be Luke Weaver in the starter slot for the Reds in the Sunday game. Weaver is 2-2 with a 7.22 ERA in 16 starts this year. He’s got 64 Ks in 76.0 innings. Weaver tossed 2.2 innings in his last start, giving up four earned along the way.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to try the Diamondbacks in this one. Probably staying away, though. Arizona should have a golden opportunity at the plate if Weaver continues to struggle. Over his last two starts Weaver has nine earned in 6.1 innings total on 10 hits and three walks. Neither start featured a decision, however. So far through two games the Diamondbacks have given up 13 runs and scored eight. That’s not bad for offensive output but
