The new-look Los Angeles Clippers will take their show on the road as they head down to the Lone Star state tonight to play rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
The Clippers grabbed its first win with James Harden Friday night against the Houston Rockets, snapping their six-game losing streak. Heading into tonight’s game, the Clippers are 8.5-point favorites over a Spurs team that has struggled at home this season (1-6), but they have this kid named Wembanyama, who is a mismatch on both ends of the floor.
Can Los Angeles build off their win against the Rockets and take down Wemby? Or will San Antonio snap its eight-game losing streak tonight in front of the hometown crowd?

James Harden: Harden’s Clippers career hasn’t gotten off to the best start, as he’s averaging 16.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. However, LA fans should be encouraged by Harden’s recent performance against the Rockets.
The future Hall of Fame point guard had 24 points (8-11 FG, 2-4 3pt), nine rebounds, and seven assists. He will try to have a similar statline tonight against the Spurs, who are ranked dead-last in scoring defense in the NBA (124.2 ppg allowed).
Kawhi Leonard: Leonard was in a small two-game slump against Memphis and Denver but snapped out of it against the Rockets late last week. The star forward led the Clippers with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 from deep. He also had eight rebounds, five steals, and two assists.
Leonard has recorded 10 steals in the last two games, which shows how much of a factor he can be on the defensive side of the floor. The 32-year-old small forward has played well on the road this season (23.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 3.5 APG) and is scoring 25.1 points per game against the Spurs in his career.

Victor Wembanyama: Wembanyama has lived up to the hype and has been the player we saw play for Mets92 over the last two years. The 19-year-old big man has adjusted well to the NBA game, averaging 19.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. Wembanyama can knock down shots on the perimeter and alter most shots on the defensive end.
The rookie didn’t play his best against the Clippers earlier this season (11 points, five rebounds, and a block). However, we should expect a better performance tonight as he’ll make the necessary adjustments.
Keldon Johnson: The 24-year-old Johnson has scored 20-plus points in three-straight games heading into tonight’s matchup against the Clippers. In the Spurs’ last game against Memphis, he had 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range.
Johnson also struggled in the Spurs’ first meeting against the Clippers, where they lost by 40 points. He only had five points on 1-of-9 shooting from the field and 1-of-5 from deep. The good news for San Antonio fans is that Johnson is scoring 18.9 points per game at home and shooting better than he does on the road this season.
The Clippers have yet to win a game on the road this season (0-6), and they are 1-5 against the spread away from Crypto.com Arena. The only time Los Angeles covered the spread on the road was in last week’s three-point loss to the Nuggets, where they were 4.5-point underdogs.
Los Angeles’ road struggles are real, but maybe they can figure it out with Harden now being on the team for a week and Russell Westbrook moving to the bench. As for the Spurs, they are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak. During their losing streak, San Antonio is being outscored by 16 points per game.
San Antonio hasn’t played well at home this season (1-6), with their only win coming against the Rockets on Oct. 27. However, the Spurs are 2-5 ATS at Frost Bank Center. With Wembanyama and Johnson, it’s not impossible to think they cover the spread tonight, as the Spurs are 3-9 ATS as an underdog.
It won’t be a popular play to lay the points with the Clippers tonight, but I’ll bet on their talent and experience.
