College football massive spread selection: Best Bet for Oct. 21

Each day, one of our experts will offer up a best bet (or two or three) that mobile sportsbooks are offering. It might be a traditional spread bet, a player prop or one of the various odds boosts that books offer.

Here is our best bet for Saturday, Oct. 21:

TOP PLAY

The play: NCAA, LSU -31 vs. Army

The odds/bet: -110 ($33 to win $30)

The book: Caesars Sportsbook

Time/TV: 7:30 p.m. (SEC Network)

Our take: This is a spread that previous LSU teams wouldn't cover. Les Miles and Ed Orgeron-led teams typically took it easy on non-conference opponents, but Brian Kelly is different. Kelly stepped onto the scene in Baton Rouge and the Tigers immediately started blowing the doors off non-conference opponents.

Unfortunately for Army, I expect this one to play out the same way.

Kelly's LSU is 5-2 against the spread over the last season and a half in non-conference showdowns. Those lone two losses both came against a great Florida State squad, otherwise, the Tigers have taken care of business as expected.

I'm not going to bet against the trends here, even though I think LSU takes it relatively easy on the Black Knights. The Tigers simply have too much firepower on offense. They're averaging over 45 points per game this season and I doubt Army will score more than 10-14 points against a defense desperate to improve. Thus, I like LSU to lay the 31 points at home as it looks ahead to Alabama.

Friday's best bet: Phillies money line over Arizona Diamondbacks (LOST)

If a line or odds are minus, it considers the juice one must lay to place the bet. Ex: Team A is -160 on the money line, one would have to bet $160 to win $100 (or $16 to win $10). OR Team B is a 5-point favorite at -110, one would have to bet $110 to win $100 (or $11 to win $10.)

Conversely, on positive lines, if Team C is +140 on the money line, $100 would bring in $140 (or $10 to win $14).
