College football prediction: A long shot pick to win Big 12

Everybody in Big 12 country is rightfully focused on Texas after its massive win over Alabama.

It’s hard to blame any Longhorn fan for getting caught up in the hype.

Not only is Texas now being priced like a potential College Football Playoff team, but the Longhorns are an odds-on favorite to win the Big 12 Championship game at -130.

I’m not here to disagree with the fact that Texas should be the betting favorite to win the Big 12, but I am here to point out that there’s another team with better betting value.

And unlike Texas, this team is off to a really rough start in 2023.

I’m talking about Texas Tech.

During the offseason, the Red Raiders’ odds to win the Big 12 shortened to 10/1.

But two losses by a combined 10 points to Wyoming and Oregon has everybody abandoning ship in Lubbock.

That makes now a great time to get in on the Red Raiders as their conference odds have doubled despite the fact that they haven’t played a Big 12 game yet.

And the reasons that everybody liked Texas Tech in the summer — a high-upside quarterback, great defensive coordinator and easy schedule — still ring true.
