College football’s most important October story lines to watch

Nobody is unbeaten in the Big 12 division this season. Washington is 8-0 and should be in College Football Playoff rankings on Nov. 1. The Sun Belt might not be as good as it seems. Cincinnati or another American Athletic Conference team might grab the New Years Six bowl bid. Brian Harsin is next man on the plank in coaching cycle. He might be able to see October as the coach of the Auburn Tigers. His team's next three games are against LSU, Georgia and Mississippi. They are all highly losable. There are a lot of good teams in Sunbelt, but not one that's good enough to produce a record gaudy enough for the College football playoff selection committee.

Joey McGuire's Texas Tech team beat Texas in overtime to earn his car this week. He's 2-0 against the state and also beat Houston.

Andy Avalos is the new coach at Boise State. The team is off to a 2-2 start. If former coach Harsin comes back on the market, Avalo's tenure could be short.
