Colorado football notes: Buffs to face another elite QB this week

Colorado plays Washington on Saturday at 7:14 p.m. (PST). Washington's Michael Penix is leading the country in passing yards and is a transfer from Indiana. Colorado lost to Washington 20-17 in Boulder on November 20, 2021. Colorado's defense is going to try to give Penx the same fits as it did against USC. The team lost 55- 17 on Friday. USC's Caleb Williams and Oregon's Bo Nix are among the top eight contenders for the Heisman Trophy.

Frank Fillip has started 22 games in his career at tackle, but he was replaced in the lineup in fifth game by Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan. Now he plays as a tight end or extra lineman. He has worn No. 76 since coming to CU in 2018. He wears No 94 jersey when he goes into the game as the extra offensive lineman and checks in as an eligible receiver.

Caleb Fauria and Zach Courtney are injured. Fillip has been playing an important role as an extra blocker.

Right guard Tommy Brown has been one of the Buffs’ best linemen this year. He could return in 2023, but he's focusing on the next two games. Right guard Fillip could come back for a sixth season, too, though he hasn't decided yet.
