Cubs: 7-win streak has oddsmakers reconsidering trade deadline status

The Chicago Cubs are flipping the narrative of their 2023 season quite dramatically, and oddsmakers are taking notice.

After the team’s walk-off victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, the Cubs have completed a seven-game win streak and have shifted their postseason odds with aplomb.

At DraftKings, Chicago’s World Series odds, National League winner odds, NL Central winner odds and general playoff odds have all taken significant upticks.

That is a remarkable reversal of fortune for a team that some considered to be a seller for Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline. Now, the team could be interested in shoring up the roster a bit for a playoff push.

Cubs reliever Michael Fulmer told ESPN that Chicago wants to be seen as a team ready to add players, not tarde them away.

“We want to convince them to be buyers,” Fulmer said. “It’s definitely a winnable division. We have the team to do it. Lately, we’ve been playing a lot better. We have to keep it going. It’s something we could have been doing all year. It’s just happening right now. That’s a good thing. We’re excited about this little streak and hope to keep it going.”

If Chicago keeps this hot streak going, it’s very possible the franchise will opt to keep its core together for the possibility of October baseball.
