Cubs vs. Reds prediction and odds for Sunday, Sept. 3 (Bet the OVER)

After dropping two straight games to the Cincinnati Reds, the Chicago Cubs are hoping to win today's series finale to even things up at two games a piece.

Every game from here on out is crucial for the Cubs, especially against a team like the Reds who are trying to steal their wild card berth. Heading into today's action, the Cubs hold a two game lead on three other teams, one of them being the Reds.

Now, let's dive into the odds for today's game.

With today being a near must-win for the Cubs, they can't feel very confident with Jameson Taillon on the bump. He's been playing some terrible baseball lately, sporting a 6.06 ERA across six starts in August.

He's also already faced the Reds this season and neither start went well for him. He has allowed 13 hits and six earned runs across 9.2 innings pitched against them. Even if the Cubs offense shows up today, it might be tough to overcome Taillon on the mound.

With that being said, the Reds aren't exactly start an ace either. They've called up Carson Spiers from the minors to make his Major League debut today. Spiers has had some solid numbers this season with a 3.69 ERA, but he has only pitched at the AA level. That means he's skipping AAA and coming straight to the Majors for his first start. That could be a recipe for disaster.

We have no idea what we're going to get from the two pitchers this afternoon, so instead of betting on a side I think it's best we just root for runs to be scored and hope for the best.
