Darts Tips: Emma Paton 16/1 outside pick for World Championship

The Paddy Power World Dart Championship is upon us and Paddy’s pulled out all the stops – whatever they are –  to make this the greatest arrows extravaganza ever!

He’s not just sponsoring the whole thing, or giving £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK for every single 180 that’s thrown throughout the tournament, he’s always doing his damnedest to find a few decent bets for punters.

And who better to get inside track on the Ally Pally palaver than Sky Sports’ Emma Paton, who’ll be giving us her favourite picks over the next three weeks, all the way to the firework-bathed final.

But who’ll be lifting the Sid Waddell Trophy underneath those pyrotechnics? We got Emma’s pre-tourney take right here…

The latest darts odds are on PaddyPower.com now

I’m just leaving for the Alexandra Palace today, but before I do I’m ready to give you some of my predictions for the Paddy Power World Darts Championship.

And I think I have to go against the grain on the biggest question – who’ll be crowned the winner of January 3rd?

That’s because I’m not going to say Luke Humphries, who’s become favourite after so much success this year.

Instead, I’m going Michael van Gerwen.

Ten years on from his first PDC crown, he’s going to lift the Sid Waddell trophy for the fourth time.

My outside pick for the tournament – if a former world champion can be called an outsider – is 2018 winner Rob Cross.

He’s been playing some brilliant darts recently, making it to the final of the Grand Slam just a matter of weeks ago.

As for who’ll throw the most 180s and take home the first ever Ballon d’Art, in the last ten years it’s always been one of the two finalists.

This time around, I’ve gone for MVG to win it, I think he’ll bein the final with Gerwyn Price, and I’ll go for the Dutchman to top the 180s race as well when it’s all over.

Emma Paton’s Picks for the World Darts Championship

Winner – Michael Van Gerwen
Darkhorse Pick – Rob Cross
Most 180s – Michael Van Gerwen
