PDC Grand Slam of Darts Betting Tips

Outright Winner – Gary Anderson
Group E Winner – Stephen Bunting

This time last year, Michael Smith had never won a major title. Fast forward a couple of months and he has been World #1 and World Champion.

The Grand Slam of Darts probably won’t be life changing for all of us, but it certainly was for Bully Boy. With the Paddy Power World Darts Championships just around the corner, there’s no better time for players to find some form and get their hands on the Eric Bristow trophy.

Outright betting

As always, Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price find themselves leading the outright market at around 4/1, and with good reason. The pair have led the averages on tour for the last year, and find themselves leading the way over the last two months as well. You’ll never go too far wrong with a bet on these two, but you might find some more appealing prices elsewhere in the field.

Only one other player has averaged over 98 over the last 12 months, so you can’t ignore Gary Anderson at 16/1.

With Dirk van Duijvenbode, Luke Humphries and Steve Lennon for company in the group stages, his route to the knockouts won’t be straightforward but The Flying Scotsman should have more than enough to get through that, and then he’s good enough to beat anyone – at his best, and on current form.

Amongst the bigger prices, James Wade stands out at 40/1. Having struggled for form this year, Wade put in an impressive run to the European Championships final last month, defeating van Duijenbode, de Sousa, Humphries and van Veen.

If he can bring that form into the Grand Slam he can go a lot further than his 40/1 price suggests.

Best Bet: Gary Anderson to win @ 16/1

Group Stage picks

Groups A, D G look to contain clear winners, with Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen all favourites to claim top spot. The Group Winner Treble would pay over 3/1 – not a bad price, if a little uninventive.

Tread carefully though – the group stages are a bit of a lottery with just three best-of-9-leg shootouts to navigate. MvG and Price will face stern tests in their groups with Rob Cross and the exciting Gian van Veen for company.

I wouldn’t bet against the Gerw(y/e)ns, but I’d proceed with caution.

Group B looks like one of the toughest to call with Jonny Clayton, Josh Rock and Chris Dobey almost impossible to separate. Rock set the Grand Slam alight last year with a nine-darter vs MvG and, even though his 2023 hasn’t quite lived up to the hype, he looks a slightly more attractive proposition in this group at a little over 2/1.

Peter Wright is favourite to win Group E, despite a relatively unimpressive year and averaging less than 94 over the last couple of months. You may be better off looking at the other likely candidates in this group, Dave Chisnall and Stephen Bunting.

The latter has posted the fifth-highest average in the PDC over the last 200 legs, and looks a very appealing price to top a close-fought group at 11/4.

Best Bet: Stephen Bunting to win Group E @11/4
