Death, Taxes and Mediocrity
The Spurs have been blown out by 20 or more points three times this season. This year's team has already exceeded that number. They have scored 115 points per 100 possessions in 10 games. Their effective field goal percentage is 54.8%, two percentage points higher than last year. Dejounte's absence has hurt the offense. Tre Jones has held the fort down admirably. The team turnover over rate is near 17%, more than 4 percentage percentage point higher from last season's. The Spurs are currently ranked 28th in the league in turnovers. It's reasonable to expect them to rein in some of those mistakes as the season goes on.
The Spurs need to be more consistent on offense, reduce their turnovers, maintain floor balance and get back on defense.
The Spurs are at the bottom of the league standings. Dejounte Murray left the team and Jeremy Sochan came in. Tre Jones and Josh Richardson have taken over some of DeJountes' workload. The team's record is not as good as their net rating. The season is long and there will be trades and injuries. Spurs fans should enjoy the show. They are not going to play themselves into the play-in or out of lottery before the new year.
