Detroit Tigers: Night games at Comerica Park to start at 6:40 p.m. in 2023

For the past few seasons, the Detroit Tigers have started their night games at Comerica Park at 6:40 p.m. during the months of April and September. The weather is typically worse during those months, so that was the team's way of trying to combat that. Nobody wants to play when it's 40 degrees and misting outside, and quite frankly, nobody wants to attend a game in those conditions either. Now, it appears that change will be permanent.

This morning, the Detroit Tigers announced that all night games during the week at Comerica Park during the 2023 season will start at 6:40 p.m., moved up from the 7:10 p.m. slot in games from May-August. Now, every game will start a little earlier than in years past.

Reaction to this news has been quite mixed. Some people are happy with the change, but some people are—in my opinion—needlessly upset about this. There have been many complaints, ranging from the traffic to the sun at that time of day.

Most of these complaints are pretty overblown. Moving the start time up one half hour will not make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. Traffic in Downtown Detroit during rush hour was a pain in the neck anyway, this won't change that. The sun will not be an issue by starting a half hour earlier, at least for the players.

This isn't that big of a deal. I don't understand people getting all riled up about this. If anything, people should be happy because that's one less half hour you have to wait for night games to start.

Personally, I'm kind of indifferent toward the change. It's nice not having to wait as long for a baseball game to start, but that's really it. I don't feel too strongly one way or the other.

So if you plan on attending any night games during the week this season, plan accordingly. Leave the house about 30 minutes earlier than you would have in years past.
