Detroit Tigers: Tarik Skubal trade rumors show why Al Avila needs to be fired

The Detroit Tigers are struggling to keep up with the expectations of last year's team. They are currently fourth in the American League Central division. Only one of the team's starting pitchers from Opening Day remains healthy. General manager Al Avila should no longer operate as Tigers’ general manager.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported that the Detroit Tigers are willing to listen to offers for left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal. ESPN's Jeff Passan confirmed the report. Skubs is the only starter from the opening day still active in the Tigers' rotation. Casey Mize, Matt Manning, Eduardo Rodriguez and Michael Pineda are injured.

The Detroit Tigers are rebuilding and Al Avila has no real vision or plan. He put all his eggs in the 2022 basket and didn't have any contingency plan for the current season. The team didn’t make the playoffs. A trade for Tarik Skubal is not necessary. Gregory Soto is a two-time All-Star in his prime and has three years of team control remaining.

The Detroit Tigers do not need a closer. Al Avila should be fired. If Skubal is traded, who will replace him? Ailva should not be trading a borderline All-Star for prospects.

Al Avila should be fired because of his poor decisions. He traded Justin Verlander for three prospects in 2017. The players he got for Verlier, Kinsler, Upton, Martinez, Castellanos and Greene have not been good enough for the Tigers. A trade involving Skubal is another example of Ailva's poor judgement. The Detroit Tigers need to move on from him as soon as possible.
