The Tigers continue to make this season compelling, following a come-from-behind victory in Kansas City on Monday. Thanks to panicked decisions by Royals manager Matt Quatraro, the Tigers pounced for three runs in the eighth and stole a win, 3-2.

On Tuesday, Tarik Skubal will make his third start of the season, and he still hasn’t allowed a run. Skubal, with Monday’s starter Matt Manning, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Michael Lorenzen, give Detroit a surprisingly competitive top four in A.J. Hinch’s rotation.

A Tigers win on Tuesday against the second-worst team in baseball, would guarantee a winning road trip. That would be a calming salve to put on the Tigers’ wounds as they head back to the Motor City later this week to begin a series against the Padres.

Starting pitchers

Tarik Skubal (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 11 K in 8 IP) vs Daniel Lynch (2-4, 4.18 ERA, 31 K in 47.1 IP)

For the second straight night, the Royals send a pitch-to-contact hurler to the mound. On Monday, Jordan Lyles managed to keep the Tigers at bay, but Lynch, sort of a lefthanded version of Lyles, may not have the same luck in a replay of styles.

Several Tigers batters, led by Eric Haase (1.015 OPS career against Lynch) have good numbers versus the KC starting pitcher. Riley Greene is 3-for-8 with a pair of doubles off Lynch.

Skubal looks as dominant as he ever has wearing the Old English ‘D’. Batters do not have a hit off his slider or changeup so far in his two outings. The lefty has yet to allow an extra-base hit, and no opponent has even barreled up a pitch yet off Skubal. Of course, that type of dominance cannot continue, but Skubal’s return seems to have spurred the rest of the rotation to step up.

Tigers bet of the day

We hopped on the run line on Monday and failed to win that bet. This time, we like Detroit on the moneyline, at -145 from Caesars MI Sportsbook. Given the way the Tigers offense is all or nothing right now, it wouldn’t surprise us to see a low-scoring, one-run game on Tuesday in KC.

We also like the UNDER on 8.5 runs (check other Michigan sportsbooks to see if you can get a better price), but at -110 it’s essentially even money odds. But worth considering if you want to go that route.

Tigers and Royals betting trends

  • Detroit has scored three runs or less in 5 of its last 7 games.
  • Either Detroit or their opponent has been shut out in 5 of the Tigers last 9 games.
  • The Tigers have outscored the Royals 33-24 this season.
  • Detroit is 5-1 in their last 6 road games.
  • The Tigers are 4-2 Against The Spread in their last 6 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in seven of Kansas City’s last nine games.

Same-game parlay

Every day we select a Same-Game Parlay for Michigan baseball bettors. Today, we get our odds from FanDuel Sportsbook, which is offering a welcome bonus for new users of play it again up to $1,000. That means if your first bet loses, you’ll get as much as $1,000 back in betting credits.

Our SGP for Tuesday night’s Royals game is focused on the starting pitchers and a top-of-the-lineup guy who will likely have his chances to scamper 360 feet and score a run.

  • Tarik Skubal Over 5.5 Strikeouts
  • Daniel Lynch Under 4.5 Strikeouts
  • Riley Greene To Record a Run

Greene has excellent numbers against Lynch, and his barrel rate, for players with at least 75 swings rated for contact, is 14th in the American League. That means he hits the ball square and hard among the best in his league.
