DK Horse Now Live In 12 States, More to Come By Kentucky Derby

Giddyup.

DraftKings announced today that its standalone horse racing app, DK Horse, is now live in 12 states. The company expects to launch in additional states by the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 6.

In November 2022, DraftKings and Churchill Downs announced a multi-year deal to bring pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing to the DraftKings brand. CDI’s subsidiary, TwinSpires, will provide advance deposit wagering to DraftKings.

DraftKings Betting on Horse Racing

The standalone horse racing app allow customers to access pari-mutuel wagering and bet numerous horse races throughout the country. DK Horse will not be funded by other DraftKings accounts, such as its sports betting or casino app, so customers will have to create new accounts and fund them separately. These created racebook accounts could potentially lead to fresh DraftKings promo codes for new users.

“Together with Churchill Downs Incorporated, an industry leader with a deep-rooted history in horse racing, we will deliver an innovative, mobile customer experience,” said Jason Robins, CEO and Chairman of the Board of DraftKings, in a release. “Our goal is to provide our customers with best-in-class-sports and gaming products, and we expect DK Horse to provide a fun and new way to engage with renowned races like the upcoming Run for the Roses.”

Customers will be given the ability to handicap races, wager, and stream video of races within their DK Horse account. The service will also offer a betting guide to inform customer of upcoming races and various ways to wager.

When DK Horse was announced in November, DraftKings reported that the new service would be live in 21 states by the Kentucky Derby. It is currently live in the following 12 states:

  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • Montana
  • Oregon
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming

Kentucky Derby and Beyond

Through the agreement, CDI will provide DraftKings with pari-mutuel rights to horse racing content that the company owns. This includes the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks.

It will also provide and secure additional horse racing content for use on DK Horse.

Churchill Downs conducts thoroughbred racing during three race periods in the spring, summer, and fall.

“We believe the depth and quality of our online offering through TwinSpires is unmatched in horse racing,” said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI, in a November press release. “We are excited to establish this relationship with DraftKings and to deliver a full end-to-end white label ADW solution that will introduce their significant base of sports betting customers to horse racing wagering.”
